What exactly is file sharing? Well file sharing is the practice or ability to transfer a file through the internet or network to another computer. The purpose of this is so that one could transfer the file to another and provide them the opportunity and capability to view or edit this file. File sharing has been widely used across the world for every individual who has access to a computer. P2P file sharing, also known as peer to peer, allows users to share files and digital media over the internet or through a P2P software. It is not just an ordinary word document type of sharing, but actually the ability to share movies, music, games and books where ordinary file sharing would not allow. Examples of P2P sharing are softwares such as Limewire, FrostWire, Gnutella, Emule and so on. From the examples listed, I personally have used some of them from a while back for downloading music and games. However, fast forward to the modern century and understanding all of the work and times spent into establishing patents and copyrights, it makes me feel guilty in a sense. Yes, I have seen the "repeated warnings to stop using unauthorized file-sharing services" (Pfanner, 4); however, as kids, wanting a video game or music blinded us from understanding the severeness of this. As a grown adult and looking back on these actions, it makes me feel ashamed, and at the same time understanding how important it is for internet users to not perform this action.

Hi Kevin, I don't think you should feel ashamed of your use. I have too, as a child, downloaded lots of music off Limewire. Instead, I think we should think of ourselves as more educated since we are older and are more aware of our actions online.
