Creativity and New Media

At the beginning of this current fall semester, I was apart of VSA (Vietnamese Student Association) where I am on the executive board as the Vice President of Marketing. As the VP of Marketing, I am constantly on the hunt for new, innovative and most importantly creative ideas. My goal is to be able to spread the word of this club out as much as possible and during this process, there are multiple components to it. One of the major components of this club was their website. Every year, the website gets revamped and this year, it was my task to tackle that and redesign the website to make it as appealing as possible. The platform that the website is located on is "Squarespace" where it does not require any difficult coding skills, but instead creativity and ingenuity. When creating and designing the entire website, it is simply applying templates or making your own and selecting your own preferred pictures. Now building the website was not all fun and games, but throughout t

Creativity

Ever since the creation of new media, this has allowed users and content creators all across the globe to be able to express their opinions and their work as well. New media has created a plethora of social media platforms and with the additions of applications like Photoshop, Premier and other editing visual apps, this has pushed content creators to work hard and produce better content. As a result of this, new media is able to foster creativity because creating the content is one thing, but being able to publish and show the worldwide is another. A prime example of new media fostering creativity was when a user on Youtube created a music video of Disney characters dancing in the song "Crank That Soulja Boy". Mashups "a re made by editing together snippets of animated movies and TV shows. The finished products look like music videos in which the cartoon characters do the singing" (Barnes, 3). Creative video creators are always passionate about combining the best

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

A virtual world is essentially a place where imaginations come to life. Creating a virtual world enables you to express your opinion and creativity to manifest to society a possible utopia or fantasy. The virtual world already exists in a plethora of children related games and one of the most noticeable one is "Minecraft". Minecraft is a computer game where kids are able to use building block to form a map and create objects to establish a virtual world never seen before. In the Forbes article "After Second Life, Can Virtual Worlds Get a Reboot?" written by Diane Mehta, she explains how "I t’s a space for kids to exercise their imagination and to connect with others to also want to build and create things" (Mehta, 1). This allows kids to grow up in a creative and playful environment that can potentially transcend into their future careers as well which is extremely positive. These are just some of the ways that the virtual world can be utilized by kids and

Blog about Twitter

Twitter has created a place where users are able to express their opinions on all matters around the world. Whether it is a political related opinion, controversial topics or even personal statuses, it is a site for people to post all about that. They are able to voice their comment on certain issues to the society where everyone is able to see it. Now for this New Media class, we operate on two couple different blogging platforms which are "Blackboard Discussions" and "Twitter". These two both allow us to blog; however, they manifest a different environment and atmosphere. Blackboard discussion is primarily for our class where everything we say and write are located on a specific page and only this class can view it. On Blackboard discussion, it provides a feeling as if you are writing on a word document with the number of choices you could have in terms of editing your text. In addition, once you submit a blog on Blackboard, you are no longer able to edit or tou

In today's society, everyone uses at least one if not more of the top four social networking sites. The top four social networking sites are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. They each present a unique environment where users are able to find their needs, interact with family and friends, and keep themselves updated with world news. These four social networking sites operate in a similar fashion; however, they each present features that allow them to be special and constantly used. Facebook, the first social networking site to reach 1 billion active users, is considered the leader of these four social networking site has evolved tremendously over the years. BLOG V WIKI

In today's modern society, blogs and wikis are playing critical roles in the world of new media especially as ways to express ones feeling or establishing a fact. With these two vital new media available, they demonstrate how important convergence is in today's networked world. They offer a method of communication where you do not have to be physically there to hear all about a product launch, guest speakers, or even a sports match. It is through the internet where all news media platform converges together to establish the perfect outreach. Having blogs and wikis available are a promising feature; however, they both present a different type of communication that may be able to cause a mixed reaction.
